we bought a zoo...

not really, this is a pre-cursor to the bigger project I had previously mentioned

I had been biding my time till the world re-opened so that I could make it over the seas to my new project, which finally happened for me this summer.

(to explain in brief, mother retired and moved to the Caribbean. specifically a little village called Calibishie on the island of Dominica. she purchased a beautiful guest house and gardens on a hill overlooking the rainforests and the atlantic ocean in the north-east of the island (i know that is a lot of information, the important part comes next)).

When I finally arrived on the island, i was whisked straight to my safe in nature quarantine accommodation, which just so happened to be next door to the newly purchased guest house, so i wasn’t too far from my new home. After seven days quarantine (which was quite amazing as the grounds were big, with fruit trees, there were also chickens and goats roaming the gardens) I finally got the all clear, packed my bags and walked the twenty yards next door to see my little lodge.

csevenm - the garden lodge

(tgl01)

My contribution to the tiny house movement will be a self contained wooden lodge at the foot of mothers guest house.

My new home, re-named the garden lodge, is a compact 240sqft, with it’s own private entrance, a spacious porch which overlooks the main garden, rainforest and in the distance you can just about see the ocean. inside the open plan studio layout has a kitchen, seating area, bedroom and two internal doors to the cupboard and separate shower room.

my first impressions were a cross between a horror movie and a dream come true, the decor was horrifying but the bones were good, i just had one or two tweaks (or five, or ten, honestly, who’s counting, the point is i made a few changes). however there was very little time to implement all of my ideas as I was on a six week deadline before i had to return

a synopsis - The kitchen was stripped back and reconfigured, switched the sofa (a little vintage number mother picked up from the auction house almost two decades ago) bathroom door was blocked, wardrobe broken down and the new bathroom entrance and wardrobe created better spacial movement throughout, electrics, lighting, re tiling, etc, etc, etc.

the garden lodge project, to be cont…
