“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”

Francis Scott Fitzgerald

It is such a charming quote I thought it would be nice to have a daily reminder. I am hoping that seeing these words regularly will help to keep me focused on all of the life plans we are putting into place.

I found a condensed version of this quote on Pinterest and decided to use this version, mainly because it was easier to fit onto the pillow cover.

The pillow cover is made from an old end of the roll piece of linen I picked up, over ten years ago, from mermaid fabrics in Hackney. The pillow was only made a few years ago but I figure a change is as good as something new, so I’m updating it.

Although this whole process would have been a lot easier with a silk screen, I don’t have one. So I simply used a white Pebeo Setaskrib fabric marker, which I bought from Amazon.

I didn’t quite realise how long the artwork was going to take to complete but it was worth it in the end. I started by printing a basic text to the right size and arrange all of the words into lines, to fit the size of the pillow. Then I had to re-write the quote in my own handwriting according to the collaged layout. Once I had perfected the artwork I made my own carbon paper and traced over the artwork onto the pillow cover, so that I could finally use the fabric pen to write out the quote on the cover. My new decorative pillow brings a touch of summer to the room as we head into autumn.
