my pal had great plans for a twenty-twenty destination wedding until lockdown interrupted everyones plans, but just incase I thought i should prepare my outfit now.

layers of soft delicate fabrics that compliment one another and soft summer colours combined with a structural yet feminine silhouette is the direction I went for this project.

originally i had planned to make a skirt with a matching piece, however the final design will be layered with a sheer yellow overdress (never one to waste good fabric) I unpicked the waistband from the skirt I had annoyingly almost finished and started building a summery bodice to attach to the old skirt design.

Obviously the issues did not stop there, I had a few problems positioning and correcting the strap lengths so that they sit perfectly when i tried the dress on but i powered through with some more unpicking and a little hand stitching and finally I think it turned out pretty special.

starting with the fabric, the pretty broderie anglais from the Cloth house in soho had been stashed away for many years, before I thought to pull it out of the cupboard and work my magic.

The design was created to be worn comfortably at a hot destination wedding, it needed to be loose and allow air to flow in a hot climate yet still define the feminine form with that wedding guest look.

unlined broderie anglais, a pair of big pants and my modesty is intact…

I might give myself a little pat on the back.
